Robotics In Health Care

We havent quite reached the Jetson age of personal robots to do all of our work around the house. There are still quite a few developments in robotics, however, that affect humans in our day to day lives, although we might not recognize them as such. The robots in real life are not generally manufactured to look like people, but they nevertheless carry out many functions that would be dangerous or difficult for a human to do.

One area where the use of robotics has advanced considerably is that of healthcare. Robotics are now used in many areas of healthcare, including surgery, home care, and hospital processes.

In surgery, the advancement of robotics has made the surgical process easier on both the patient and the surgeon. Robotic intelligence and precision have combined to eliminate human limitations. Robotic surgery allows a surgeon to navigate to the area of operation with minimal cutting, ensuring both a less invasive procedure and a faster recuperation time. Robotic surgery also allows for more precise placement of tools within the surgical area, minimizing the risks of slippage or error.

In home healthcare, the current focus is largely on human labor. The aging population of baby boomers has already put a strain on the home health care situation which is only going to increase in the next ten to twenty years. Already, many home health care providers are feeling the strain of an industry that is increasingly becoming an employees market, where the supply of qualified health providers simply does not meet the demand.

In order to fill this void, there are many research projects underway in the field of home health care robotics. Some of the areas include telenursing for those in need of remote home care, mobile health status monitoring, home health diagnosis equipment, mobility assistance for bedridden patients, and auditory and visual assistance for the elderly (). The completion and implementation of these ideas will revolutionize the home health care industry, both in terms of individual capacity and in expense.

Health Care Reform And Depression On The 4th Of July

We are in the middle of 2010 gearing up for fireworks; waiting for the new health care reform law to take effect. Eleven state attorneys general said they wanted to challenge the law as being unconstitutional and the Democrats are still talking about passing amendments. Moreover, there are many questions that remain unanswered; the biggest of which is, Will it make health care more effective? The obvious answer is no. This entire scenario is one big shell game. There are thousands of pages of new law and most of the law makers are clueless.

The reality check is that the Congress has passed this bill with a three year delay in implementation, so it was designed to change nothing for the immediate future with the hope that after three years, with no one paying attention anymore, the administration can sneak a few changes in to implement its socialist agenda. Meanwhile, we as a society still have the same health issues in a system that continues to thrive on treatment rather than prevention. One prime example is depression and anxiety. People naturally become depressed in the kind of severe economic downturn that we are experiencing with increased anxiety about a future that looks bleak. Medical insurance, health insurance or some type of managed care health plan seems irrelevant when facing unemployment. In a depressed economy, with massive anxiety and depression plaguing the population there is a serious public health problem. This kind of insidious upheaval leads to other chronic diseases like, diabete3s, high blood pressure, heart attack and the like.

The generally accepted treatment however, is for the pharmaceutical companies to make billions of dollars selling anti-depressants and tranquilizers. Moreover, aside from monetizing human responses to stressful stimuli, there is a political benefit to having massive numbers of citizens living in chemically induced altered realities. People on Prozac are less likely to protest against nefarious political agendas. Therefore, what motivation does the government have to reform health care to the extent that people will have better access to professional counseling for coping with and resolving their struggles?

In conclusion, as we throw a few slabs of meat on the barbecue grill and sip some beer on this 4th of July we need to realize that there are a few avenues toward seizing power and control that the founding fathers could not anticipate. The constitution is a wonderful document and has saved our republic from despotism enumerable times in our 214 year history. However, it is subject to interpretation and we know from experience that Supreme Court justices take opposite views of what is or is not constitutional depending upon whether they are liberal or conservative. Therefore, we need to be diligent in letting our political leaders know that we are not as stupid as they think. We need to consistently remind them that they work for us. That is why freedom of speech is still the most important constitutional amendment.

What Are Healthy Fats The Layman’s Guide

What are healthy fats is a question more plus more individuals are asking nowadays due to the awareness which certain kinds of fats have been connected with heart plus artery illness. In this article we are going to answer this question concerning what are healthy fats plus isolate the one fat which stands head plus shoulders above the sleep.

Most food items (including the bag of chips) contain a number of kinds of fats, certain good plus certain not so superior. Good fats are those that have little or no impact on bad fat plus blood lipid levels. Truth be told, some healthy fats can even lower bad fat levels when enjoyed in moderation. All healthy fats fall below the heading of dull fats, plus are broken down into 2 general categories; monounsaturated plus polyunsaturated./p>

But occasionally in the world of analysis anything unexpected plus quite exciting is found that confounds even many knowledgeable experts. And this was indeed the case with a kind of polyunsaturated fatacknowledged as omega 3 oily chemicals.

Omega 3 oily chemicals are at the best of the list when it comes to asking what are healthy fats. They have been known as heart healthy by several noteworthy companies including the American Heart Association and also the American Medical Association. Also, continuous analysis is locating which their health advantages goes far past which of cardiovascular disease plus can include as several as 60 conditions plus illnesses including arthritis, psychological disorders, plus mobile disorders including cancer.

But there is a problem

The issue is the fact that when monounsaturated fats plus polyunsaturated fats are found in abundance numerous types of nutritional delights (olive oil, avocados, soy, corn oil, plus nuts plus seeds) omega 3 oily chemicals are only found in abundance in cold water oily fish (salmon, sardines, anchovies, herring).

Some will believe ample amounts your polyunsaturated fat cardiovascular star can be had from flax, flax oil, plus walnuts full of the omega 3 essential fatty acid alpha linolenic acidic (ALA). While there is some truth in this the actual fact of the situation is the fact that to allow the body to use ALA it should be converted into docosahexaenoic acidic (DHA) or eicosapentaenoic acidic (EPA). In the conversion process over 70 percent is lost. With nuts plus flax being full of calories we can see that certainly isn’t your best option.

In summary, in the world of fats, saturated fat plus trans fat put us vulnerable for heart plus artery illness, plus recognizing what are healthy fats may help us eliminate plus substitute properly. Once you recognize the game, creating a winning game plan utilizing the numerous health advantages of omega 3 products /foods all of the sudden doesn’t appear all which far away of the reach.

Why Vegetarians Are Less Healthy

Roughly, about 6% of the world’s population is vegetarian, a trend that is growing. Yet study after study shows that vegetarians are less healthy than their non-vegetarians peers. Why is this so? Surely a diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables should make you healthier, not less healthy, so what’s going on?

In the light of extraordinary new research it is becoming apparent that most vegetarians are in fact less healthy than their non-vegetarian peers. By “peers” I mean people of a similar socio-economic and cultural background. Any valid comparison between vegetarians and non-vegetarians must compare apples with apples. For example, any study that compared an affluent health-conscious vegetarian from California with an impoverished meat eater from the slums of Calcutta is not likely to be meaningful.

Recent studies are clearly showing that compared to their non-vegetarians peers, vegetarians are more at risk of diseases such as infertility, cancer, heart disease, eating disorders, mental disease, and obesity.

Several studies have compared health-conscious vegetarians with health-conscious non-vegetarians from the same demographic (the same socio-economic, health-conscious cohort). In other words, scientists have compared vegetarians and non-vegetarians from similar backgrounds so as to validate the results and they have come up with some surprising conclusions.

For example, in a study of 76,000 people conducted over many years data from five studies were pooled into a very large collaborative analysis of mortality in vegetarians and non-vegetarians (Appleby PN, Key TJ, Thorogood M, Burr ML, Mann J. Mortality in British vegetarians. Public Health Nutr. 2002 Feb;5(1):29-36).

The Appleby Study compared vegetarians and non-vegetarians, adjusted for age, sex and smoking. The results for all-cause mortality showed no significant difference between vegetarians and their non-vegetarian peers. Many studies have shown that vegetarians live longer than the population at large, but the Appleby Study showed that this is not the case when you compare people within the same demographic. The study concluded that ‘Overall mortality was the same between vegetarians and non-vegetarians. But vegetarians had 2.2 times the death rate from mental and neurological diseases as non-vegetarians.’

Several studies have compared vegetarians and non-vegetarians within the same demographic and the research is clearly showing that vegetarians are at greater risk of heart disease, cancer, infertility and other diseases. As most studies have compared vegetarians with the population at large, this is not widely known; such studies provide a false picture because the population at large is not particularly health-conscious.

This begs the question: does this mean that eating animal products is good for health? The research on the whole says NO. So if vegetarians are less healthy than their non-vegetarian peers, what is the reason? Why is it that vegetarians are less healthy than their non-vegetarians peers in the same demographic? This is the vegetarian paradox.
